New skyscraper about to go up in downtown Houston

HOUSTON — Houston’s downtown skyline will soon be changing. That’s because Chevron announced on Wednesday plans to build a new office building there.
The company says the 50-story, 1.7 million square-foot building, which was designed by HOK, will go up at 1600 Louisiana, next to Chevon’s buildings at 1500 Louisiana and 1400 Smith.
According to the company, the three-building campus will have indoor and outdoor common areas, enhanced dining facilities, a fitness center and more.
“This announcement underscores Chevron’s long-term commitment to Houston and its role as the epicenter of the global energy industry,” said Bereket Haregot, president of Chevron’s Business and Real Estate Services division, said in a press release announcing the new building. “Houston plays a vital and growing role in Chevron’s global business. The new building and expanded urban campus will provide a first-rate work environment for our employees and help us remain the employer of choice.”
Final investment decision is expected in the second quarter of 2014 with groundbreaking to follow. Occupancy is expected in the fourth quarter of 2016.
Chevron employs approximately 9,000 employees and contractors in Houston, where nine of its businesses are headquartered.

Site north of Houston taking shape, with room for workforce of 10,000
The Exxon Mobil campus north of Houston is taking shape.
Aerial photos show multiple buildings and parking garages being framed on the 386-acre site west of Interstate 45 near the Hardy Toll Road.
Exxon Mobil will transfer about 2,000 workers from outside Texas to its site near The Woodlands. Some 8,000 others will come from Houston-area sites.
